Training

We are committed to supporting individual referees to develop at their own pace. We encourage all referees to register on the RFU GMS system and set up their own account, we also encourage referees to register with World Rugby training passport. By registering on both systems you can gain access to a wide range of training material with a lot of the content available free of charge. All referees should complete the current RFU head injury and safeguarding training before officiating any games. Any referee covering age grade games must have a current DBS certificate. The society will support referee development through meetings, coaching and mentoring.

Young Match Officials

The RFU support referees from the age of 14. You can, with the support of an adult, sign up for a RFU GMS account. Initial match experience is gained at clubs and in school ,usually refereeing players at least two years below the referees age group. We can help with support and advice and when the referee is ready to officiate games away from their home club we can help arrange fixtures and provide a designated referee coach to support development.

Club Referees

We can support club volunteer referees either individualy or in  groups at your club, to help improve refereeing performance.
